While these agendas have never been fully aligned, the inauguration of Donald Trump on January 20th signals that it may become even harder, at least in the near future, for the US and Europe to harmonize their policies under a shared conductor.
Trump has wasted no time in this area. He has already signed an executive order to withdraw the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement, a move he previously made at the start of his first presidency. All indications suggest this will be the first of many actions in this domain.
